Five major mistakes I’ve made as a blogger

By my calculations, I’ve been blogging off and on, on a variety of topics, since December of 2007. Since then, I’ve had several different blogs on a few different platforms. (You can check out this post from 2022 for a quick guide to my different blogs.) So, over the years, I’m not sure I’ve figured out any ways to successfully maintain a blog, but I have almost surely made most of the common mistakes one can make in the endeavor of blogging. Here are a few mistakes I’ve made…

#5 — Keep hopping from platform to platform

I started my first blog on LiveJournal.com, which eventually was bought by a Russian company. From there, I moved to Tumblr, then to Posterous, which eventually bit the dust. After that, I tried Weebly, WordPress, and Wix, as well as Postach.io and Dreamwidth. And I’ve never quite given up on Tumblr…or Weebly. Oh, and I currently have THREE blogs here on Medium. I have never quite been able to figure out which platform really works for me.

#4 — Blog on every subject that pops into your mind

I love dictionaries. I have a huge Bible collection. I have been a longtime Sherlock Holmes fan. I am interested in The Book of Mormon and LDS history. Those are just a few of my interests, so which one did I decide to focus on for my blogging? How about all of them? Most successful bloggers…
